Social Service Agencies

Jewish Family Service of Stamford Provides comprehensive social service to the community-at-large

Life Bridge   (Formerly FSW Community Closet) A  mainly volunteer organization that collects donations of clothing and household items giving them away free of charge to those in need striving for self-sufficiency.

Jewish Senior Services: (formerly Jewish Home for the Elderly)  Fairfield

Kesher Project -   A program for Jewish developmentally challenged men and women of all ages that live in group or private homes.  Held at Congregaton B'nai Israel, Bridgeport.

Circle of Friends:  A program designed to foster a relationship between children, teens and young adults with special needs and community teenage volunteers. 

Friendship Circle of Fairfield County: A program that serves children with special needs.

Positive Directions: The Center for Prevention & Recovery, Inc. Operates an Adolescent Treatment program designed for adolescents ages 13 to 21 and their families coping with adolescent drug or alcohol use and  other addictive behaviors and associated emotional issues.

Israeli Young Emissary Program:   A partnership sponsored by the Federation for Jewish Philanthropy of Upper Fairfield County and The Jewish Agency for Israel.  This program was piloted in Westport 16 years ago and today, there are more than 100 young Israelis in North America who have chosen to defer their military service to do a year of service in the community.  During the year they work within the local synagogues and community agencies as well as the public schools, sharing their knowledge and love of Israel.




Overseas Programs

The Jewish Federation of North America Representing 151 Jewish Federations and over 300 Network communities, which raise and distribute more than $3 billion annually for social welfare, social services and educational needs.


American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC): In the Volga Region of the Former Soviet Union (FSU) - JDC provides welfare: hunger relief, winter relief, and medical care for the elderly; it also provides Jewish renewal to children, families and the elderly.  In Israel;  JDC helps fight Jewish poverty.

Southern New England Consortium (SNEC): SNEC funds many social services agencies in Afula-Gilboa region - our sister cities.

Emunah Sarah Herzog Children's Center in Afula -Israel: The center provides residential care for children referred through Child Services. It also has a day care intervention program for children who do not need to be removed from their home.

Beit Singer - Residential Center: It provides residential care to at-risk children. {when you get to the site, click on ENG at the top left of the page for English}

Haifa Rape Crises Center

Project Kesher: the largest Jewish women's organization in the FSU. Covers 9 time zones, from Russia to Ukraine, Belarus... and in Israel. Transforms women's lives...

Birthright Israel: offers the gift of a free 10-day educational trip to Israel for Jewish youth between the ages of 18 - 26.
